Celebrating 8 Years of Other Box Magic

What a ride it’s been! We've spent the last eight years building this incredible Other Box community. For the past four of those years, life threw us a curveball (hello covid, lockdowns, founder burnout, and a public-facing hiatus), so we took a break from hosting events and everything was online. But guess what? Despite all that, our 8th birthday party and relaunch event in East London turned out to be THE IRL reunion we never knew we needed!

It’s proof that no matter the time apart, we’re all drawn to like-minded, open-hearted people who want to connect, share stories, and enjoy some seriously good food. A huge thank you to everyone who packed the place out, from old friends to new faces. The energy was electric—honestly, it felt like we’d only been apart for weeks, not years!

The whole place was buzzing, and our delicious cocktail/mocktail menu, named after some of our favourite British women of colour in media and entertainment from the early 90s, is still being spoken about weeks after the event. A special shoutout to Vegetarian Brown Girls’ “Crisps but Better” chaat stall was the talk of the night, and DJs Hoops and DJ Prito kept the vibes going inside with their excellent sets.

We promise there will be more Other Box events on the horizon!

In the meantime, check out the video recap below and photos at the end from our amazing night at Burnt Faith Brandy House. A huge thanks to Craig and the team for keeping everything running smoothly and stress-free (my fellow event organisers will know just how crucial that is from a venue host!).
