Introducing: cut from an/other cloth
We’re delighted to share that Vogue Business have launched our content series ‘Cut From AnOther Cloth’, a collaboration between with London-based photographer and menswear writer Rikesh Chauhan and Other Box.
The campaign focuses on bringing people from diverse backgrounds out from behind the scenes and putting them front and centre, celebrating their contributions to an industry that is often seen as predominantly white and inaccessible.
“One thing I’ve always noticed in my time in and around Savile Row is that it is actually quite diverse—a lot more than people expect it to be,” says Rikesh, who photographed the campaign and conducted the interviews. “And that’s a big part of the problem: the assumption. When it comes to applying for roles in and around the Row, it’s been telling that the majority of applicants aren’t from ethnic backgrounds. Whilst there’s a lot that still needs to be done on Savile Row’s part—particularly in terms of managerial roles—we need to let people from minority backgrounds realise that there can be space here. But if you don’t ask, you don’t get.”
Cut From AnOther Cloth features nine individuals working in various roles within the industry, sharing their insights and experiences as people of colour in the tailoring world.
“The influence people of colour have had - and continue to have - on fashion and culture is significant,” says Leyya, founder of Other Box. “And while there’s a lot of focus on increasing representation in what we see - whether in campaigns, catalogue or media - we often overlook the importance of diversity behind the scenes in this industry and so many other industries too.”
A big thank you to Vogue Business for amplifying these important stories.
