So, without further ado…
MEET TRINA NICOLE (She/her)
With Caribbean heritage and roots in East London, Trina is the founder of The Curve Catwalk, a body-inclusive dance class designed to empower women through the joy of movement. As a dancer, model, and content creator, she is dedicated to celebrating body positivity and helping others embrace their authentic selves. She’s gone on to dance for the likes of Beyonce, Lizzo and Raye.
How did you get started?
I started by telling myself that if I could work 12-hour days in production, building someone else's dreams and company, imagine what I could achieve if I applied that same work ethic to my goals and dreams. I share this to say that a change in my mindset drove me to create something that truly mattered to me.
How do you / your work support and celebrate underrepresented people?
I celebrate underrepresented people by creating a dance and fitness community that truly embraces plus-size women and those feeling left out of traditional fitness spaces. My mission is to challenge stereotypes, promote joyful movement, and make dance more inclusive.
How do you Make Space For Difference?
I Make Space For Difference by creating an environment where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and celebrated. Creating an atmosphere of respect and acceptance ensures that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
Who/What inspires your work?
Seeing how far I’ve come from who I was to who I am now deeply inspires and motivates me. I know firsthand what it's like to feel left out, to struggle with body image, to feel unloved, underrepresented and undervalued, so I want to create space for those who also feel that way because they are me.
What can we expect from you in the coming months?
Truthfully, for the next couple of months, I'll be focussing on pouring into myself. It's very easy to talk about work with a question like this, but as an entrepreneur whose job demands constant presence and energy, taking time for rest and enjoyment is essential. I don't often prioritise down time, but burnout is real, and I want to continue to show up fully for my business and my community, embodying the balance and wellness I advocate for.
What is your favourite quote that sums up your philosophy on life?
“Your conviction and convenience don’t live on the same block.”- Lisa Nichols
