MEET HASH
A 3D Artist and Motion Designer from East London!
How did you get started?
I've always been into Art and Design, but things really kicked off in college. I began with film and editing, dreaming about getting into the production world. I loved editing everything from home movies to silly videos shot on my phone. But then a tutor introduced me to Motion Design and BAM! My passion for motion graphics took off, and I deep-dived into After Effects and Cinema 4D in 2009.
After graduating, I suddenly found myself in the middle of London's ad scene, where I lived and studied. I kind of stumbled into freelancing, mainly doing 2D Motion Design for quite a few years. But over the last three to four years, I really got hooked on 3D Art. It started with a few client gigs, but before I knew it, it became a huge part of my everyday work.
How do you support and celebrate underrepresented people?
As a South Asian in a white-dominated industry, I've always made it a point to speak up when I see racism or unconscious bias. When you've lived it, you understand how vital diversity is, and I've made it my mission to champion the cause. Whenever there's a chance, especially during bigger projects, I'm all for including a mix of talented people and bringing on diverse talent.
How do you Make Space For Difference?
I'm a firm believer that having a ton of different viewpoints can really make a project shine. To keep pushing for diversity, I've even started a meetup and networking group just for South Asian creatives. It's a place where we can link up, exchange ideas, and support each other as we make our way in the industry. I'm all in on promoting diversity and inclusion in our field, and I know that if we work together, we can make some serious progress.
What inspires your work?
My personal inspiration for my work stems from childhood memories of having the freedom to create as I pleased. But then I grew up, and there were all these rules and regulations which hindered my true self. This put me in a box. But now, I'm back to just making stuff for fun. I look up to other artists who feel the same way.
What can we expect from you in the coming months?
In addition to exciting client projects, I continuously work on side projects for my personal growth and the design community. I am developing various tools for 3D assets and resources for artists to use in their work. I am also planning more tutorials to share the process behind my art creation.
What is your favourite quote that sums up your philosophy on life?
“The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.” ― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
